This week: The Niis attempt to make up for last week by actually recording a show. There’s quite a bit to get through, including another mental game at Northampton and a deadline day which kept the crew happy for a range of reasons.
Contains tasty descriptions of John Fleck’s passing.
The over expressive Clinton Morrison… yes, the same guy who wasn’t able to have the #10 shirt so decided to take the #19 and stick a “+” in the middle of the digits.
I have to admit I was a skeptic of Pressley at the start, not one calling for his head, but I wasn’t sure he could do the job. Perhaps because in my head he was just an average left back with an addiction for red cards. He wasn’t a manager that I wanted to put in charge of my club to move it forward.
When he began speaking to the media I was initially irked by the repetitive phrases like “responded magnificently”, “group of players” and “fantastic football club”, but his positive attitude really is beginning to rub off on the majority, not just the players, but fans too.
At the end of 2012/13, I didn’t agree with playing the passing game on pitches that didn’t allow it. Yet perhaps in hindsight, he knew that once the season was written off he could start preparing for this year. I guess the mentality being if you can find your teammates feet and control a ball on those pitches, you’ll do well when we start the new campaign on perfect turf, and have the experience to know how to cope when the winter season kicks in.
I also was surprised by the players he dumped into the bomb squad and couldn’t see how we would do anything this year as I thought the threadbare squad was much weaker than what we had at the start of 2012/13. Yet Pressley has noticed the gems from the “cheaper resource” pile, brought them on to the extent that these players most of us knew very little about a year ago, are now being tracked by other clubs.
All in all, I’m delighted with the way Pressley has gone about his business, I’m more than satisfied with the players he’s brought in, I’m over the moon with the players we’ve managed to keep hold of and to top it, the football we are playing is at the moment incredible.
Long may it continue. PUSB.
